Manaus is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Amazonas. It is the seventh-largest city in Brazil, with an estimated 2020 population of 2M, which can only be reached by boat or plane. It was largely exploited in the 18th century for it’s rubber and experienced a massive growth spurt. The wealthy individuals who once lived there built lavish homes with opulent gardens, and boldly hoarded tremendous wealth at the expense of cheap and salve labor. Which all changed, when the world discovered that it could grow rubber trees in other parts of the world, such as Singapore and the Philippines. However, the town remains a very large cultural center of the Amazon region.
